Lesson 01 · 4 min
Prepare before engagement
Check alignment, fifth-wheel position, and line connections before charging and backing underneath.
Rule to rememberSecure the trailer and identify the correct connections before supplying air or moving.
Apply the rule
For the conventional tractor-semitrailer sequence, prepare the fifth wheel, align the tractor, approach slowly, and check height. Connect matching air lines and check operation as prescribed. Mechanical engagement is a later step. Use the procedure for your equipment.
Why it matters
An unsecured trailer can move; mismatched lines can impair brakes. Initial plate contact is not a locked connection.
Avoid this mistake
Charging the supply is not a substitute for checking both connections and securing the trailer.
