Lesson 01 · 5 min
See and plan the path before moving
Use stable steering and a planned low-speed path, especially when backing or working in a restricted area.
Rule to rememberHold the wheel with both hands, inspect a restricted path before entering it, avoid backing when possible, and back slowly with a helper when one is available.
Keep steering control
Use both hands on opposite sides of the wheel. A stable grip supports smooth corrections and keeps the driver ready when the road or vehicle pulls unexpectedly.
Plan before entering
Walk a tight yard or uncertain backing path. Find fixed hazards, overhead limits, people, and a way out before the cab blocks the view.
Back with controls
Position to reduce blind-side backing, use a helper where available, agree on signals, stop when the helper disappears, and move at walking speed.
