Lesson 01 · 4 min
See every danger zone
Use direct vision and the correct mirrors to account for children around the bus.
Rule to rememberAdjust mirrors before operation and scan them in a logical sequence whenever children may enter a danger zone.
Know what is hidden
Children can disappear below the windshield, near the service door and front wheels, along either side, and behind the bus. Passing traffic also makes the left side dangerous.
Use each mirror for its job
Flat and convex mirrors cover traffic and side zones. Crossover mirrors show the front bumper area, front wheels, and service-door zone that direct vision misses.
Protect a child who drops an item
Tell the child to leave the item, move out of the danger zone, and get the driver's attention. Do not let the child bend down beside the bus.
