Lesson 01 · 4 min
Own the cargo inspection timeline
Inspect the load and securement at the required trip points and after events that can loosen them.
Rule to rememberInspect before starting, again within the first 50 miles, after 3 hours or 150 miles, after each driving break, and whenever conditions call for another check.
Responsibility stays with the driver
Even when another person loads or secures the cargo, the driver must recognize overload, poor balance, blocked visibility or equipment, and inadequate securement.
Check after settling
Load and devices can settle soon after movement. Inspect within the first 50 miles and make needed adjustments.
Recheck through the trip
Inspect after 3 hours or 150 miles, after each driving break, and more often when the load or road can loosen securement.
